Work Related Industry brief

Monday 30th March 2009
On Friday I continued to do some research I looked at Sunderland's R.N.L.I for images to inspire me for the shoot of Hartlepool R.N.L.I. The image to the left I liked how the photographer has grouped the crew. the unity of the team is represented in the crews' uniform colours. The shots in the page layout taken from Sunderland R.N.L.I I particularly liked; I thought these were captured deep within the action.
Research and images from http://rnlisunderland.org/gallery

On Friday 27th March 2009 I looked at Frank Meadow Sutcliffe on the internet; he is famous for photographing the R.N.L.I most of the images are of Whitby and what look are of Fishermen; Sutcliffe apparently never named any of his images. Out of the gallery images in sea theme I liked the action shot of the crew on the beach. These were taken from http://sutcliffe-gallery.co.uk/photos .

On Sunday 29th March 2009 I went to Hartlepool R.N.L.I. I was made welcome by all the crew on duty. I requested that they wear the full Kit, head gear the works. They asked me if I would like shots of them on the boat, I said 'yes please', I was then also given a life jacket to wear. Went onto ALB 14-37 Betty Huntbatch and asked the crew who were present, to group with their gaze out to sea so that I was able to get the framing similar to the classic Beatles shot. I was hoping to capture a reflection in the visor, but there did not seem to be able to capture one on this day. The crew suggested get into ILB B-714 Spirit of Cumbria to get a good shot of the crew. I took some of them whilst in the ILB then went back onto the ALB where they asked me if I was up to going out on the ALB Betty Huntbatch. I said yes and all engines go went out to sea with the ILB along side. I was up on the top of ALB 14-37 Betty Huntbatch which was at an advantage point to be able to take several shots of the ILB B-714 Spirit of Cumbria in the action. A call from the coast guard sent the R.N.L.I crew on a search exercise which was exciting. The boat stopped to scan seabed floor which resulted in the thrills coming to a swift close on the ALB as I felt motion sick. The crew on the ALB would have to remain on exercise so I was taken back to the station on the ILB at speed, it was a magnificent experience, even with the cold wind lashing against me as the ILB sped over the sea. After the ALB returned the lads signed the model release forms for me. I would like to thank the lads for the great day and would like to be able to do this again sometime.
